Fan Recaps and Comments:

John Linnell performed this short solo set as part of a "Hello Showcase," featuring artists that had released music through the Hello Recording Club.[1] He was accompanied by tuba player Marcus Rojas.

Linnell played material from his 1994 State Songs Hello EP, as well as Wallace Stevens' poem "Anecdote of the Jar" and Maryland's then-official state song, "Maryland, My Maryland". He also performed "The Songs Of The 50 States", which remained unreleased for another four years. This early iteration of the song featured slightly different lyrics and an alternate ending.

This Hello Showcase also instigated the formation of the Mono Puff band, who played their debut performance at the show. John Flansburgh: "I had a bunch of songs that I had put out through the club that I had wanted to record in a more full-blown way. I got together a band to do the songs at a "Hello" showcase in NY."[2]
